Frequently asked questions
At what age should I childproof my home?
Ideally before your child starts crawling — typically around 6-8 months. But many hazards like furniture tip-overs, hot water scalds, and window falls are risks at any age. The CPSC reports 93% of tip-over fatalities involve children age 5 and under.
What's the difference between this and DIY childproofing?
DIY childproofing covers what you can see. A nurse-led assessment identifies risks you'd miss — hot water temperatures, furniture weight distribution, cord hazards behind furniture, outlet configurations, and how your child's developmental stage creates specific new risks as they grow.
What gets fixed during the visit?
We handle furniture anchoring, window stop installation where compatible, cabinet and drawer locks, outlet covers, cord management, non-slip surface application, and lighting improvements. Structural or licensed work (electrical, plumbing) is referred to our partner network.
How long does the Child Safety Sprint take?
Approximately 3-4 hours including the full Healthy Home Baseline assessment plus immediate childproofing work. We walk through every room, with special focus on nursery, kitchen, bathroom, and stairways.
Is the hot water temperature check important?
Yes. The American Burn Association notes that at 140°F, a serious burn can occur in approximately 5 seconds. Most water heaters are factory-set higher than the recommended 120°F maximum at the tap. We measure, educate, and help you adjust.
